Marguerite May (Maggi) S. Sullivan, 94, of Charlottesville, passed away peacefully on Monday June 27, 2016.
She was born on May 22, 1922 to the late Lester G. Scarborough and Florence May Norris Scarborough. She was the beloved wife of the late Alan P. Sullivan Jr. for 70 years.
Maggi graduated from Mount St. Agnes/Loyola College with a BS/RN. She worked at Johns Hopkins Hospital after graduation. During World War II she worked for Eastern Air Lines as an expeditor and staffing representative. She often remarked that the greatest reward of her work with the airlines was returning soldiers home to their families when their tour of duty was over.
Maggi and Alan settled in New Jersey where they raised their family. She worked for a general practitioner doctor for 15 years. She also was a licensed real estate agent. Maggi was a member of the DAR; Colonial Dames; served on the Central Shenandoah Health Advisory Council (SHAC) and volunteered to mentor high school girls while living in North Carolina. In her later years, Maggi was active in the local chapter of the Red Hats.
Family traditions were very important to Maggi, especially during the holidays, and she was always there for her family and friends. Those who knew her will remember her smile, laugh and quick wit.
Maggi is survived by her son, Alan P. Sullivan, III, daughter, Ann Congdon, two grandchildren, Jim Congdon, and Amy Sharma, and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many nephews, cousins, and valued friends.
A funeral service was conducted at St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Palmyra, Va. on Thursday, June 30, at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Piedmont.
