Below is information about the teachers who are new to the Fluvanna County Public Schools this year.
Central Elementary School:
Janean Jones, special education instructional assistant, has worked in the past as a substitute teacher for Fluvanna schools.
Kristy Muddiman, first grade teacher, has an undergraduate degree from the University of Virginia (U.Va.) and a graduate degree from Hollins University. She has been a long-term substitute with Fluvanna schools and has four years of experience in the public school system.
Lauren Payne, instructional assistant, attended Longwood University and has worked as an instructional assistant in the Headstart classroom.
Susan Shields, instructional assistant, attended Concord University and received licensure in physical education. She has worked 12 years in the public school system and two years in private school. She currently serves as the varsity assistant volleyball coach for Fluvanna.
Kelly Stewart, first grade teacher, was awarded undergraduate and graduate degrees from U.Va. in religious studies and elementary education.
Kelly Williams, first grade teacher, attended undergraduate and graduate school at Radford University.
Caitlin Lucas, English as a second language teacher, earned her B.S. in psychology from the College of William and Mary and her Master’s of education in English as a second language from American University.
Carysbrook Elementary:
Elizabeth Barbour, third grade teacher, has her Master’s of education from U.Va., and did her student teaching in both Crozet and Belfast, Northern Ireland. Most recently she worked as an instructional support assistant for a student with special needs in Crozet.
Shawn Heron, special education teacher, graduated from Mary Baldwin College. For the last nine years Heron has worked as both a teaching assistant and teacher in Albemarle County Schools.
Keri Morris, fourth grade teacher, has her Master’s of elementary education from U.Va. She has spent several years working with special education students in Goochland County and was a Fluvanna substitute teacher in 2014. In 2015 she was a literacy aide at Carysbrook Elementary working with fourth graders. She is a 2004 FCHS graduate.
William Reese, instructional assistant in literacy, received his B.S. in education from the University of Phoenix. He has been a student teacher and substitute at Carysbrook Elementary.
Fluvanna Middle School:
Kellye Christ, sixth grade math teacher, has a Master’s of science in elementary education from the University of Mary Washington. She has taught for six years in Fairfax County Public Schools, including first through fourth grade.
Miranda Elliott, middle school math teacher, has a Bachelor’s in applied mathematics and attended Mary Baldwin, Brown University, and Evergreen State College. She is a new teacher with one year of long-term substitute teaching experience.
Cheryl Koltz, fifth grade math teacher, has a Bachelor’s in liberal studies – elementary education, and a Master’s of education in reading, literacy, and learning. She is a new teacher and a FCHS class of 2011 alumna.
Melody Morgan, fifth grade collaborative language arts teacher, graduated from the University of Charleston. She has 12 years of experience teaching in Orange County schools.
Hillary Pleasants, fifth grade math teacher, graduated from U.Va. She has previous experience teaching sixth to eighth grade mathematics as well as kindergarten and first grade. For the last five years she has taught for Charlottesville City Schools.
DeeAnn Shephard, math 5 collaborative teacher, graduated from Purdue University with degrees in education and special education, and has 28 years of experience teaching middle school special education in Indiana.
Karen Soto, fifth grade literacy aide, has a Bachelor’s of science in education from Franciscan University and taught for 22 years in Prince George’s County in Maryland. She taught special education for six years in Fluvanna and has been substitute teaching in Fluvanna since 2012.
Liza Wyka, fifth grade language arts teacher, earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in elementary education and a certification in English as a second language. She attended Florida Gulf Coast University. She has worked as a fifth grade teacher for two years in Collier County, Florida, and also for two years in Orange. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in educational leadership.
Erin Edwards, fifth grade math, earned a B.S. in sociology and is licensed in elementary education. She attended Longwood University and Mary Baldwin College. She has substituted in surrounding counties and taught preschool for two years before moving into a pre-kindergarten position for a year.
Joyce Carter, sixth grade science, earned a Bachelor’s from Longwood University. She taught at Chimborazo Elementary School in Richmond for 10 years.
Tonya Lloyd, family and consumer science teacher, earned a B.S. in history from Shenandoah University, and previously taught middle school in Fauquier County.
Fluvanna County High School:
Glynis Adams, math teacher, has a Bachelor’s degree from Saint Paul’s College, a Master’s of business administration degree from the Florida Institute of Technology, and a Ph.D. in adult learning and human development from Virginia Tech. Adams has been a reading, language arts, and mathematics teacher at Central Elementary.
Jerry Ahrens, science teacher, has his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Florida. He has taught both earth and space science in Washington County Public Schools.
Travis Bailey, school psychologist, earned his B.S. in psychology at James Madison University and his Master of Arts in teaching from James Madison University; he received a specialist degree in school psychology and his doctorate at the Chicago School of Professional Psychology. Bailey has been working at U.Va. as a research professional.
Justin Boucher, English teacher, graduated from North Central University in Minnesota. He has been teaching language arts in Buckingham County Public Schools.
Amy Bower, English teacher, earned her Bachelor’s in business administration at Temple University. She later received her post-baccalaureate certificate in elementary education. She has most recently taught at the Faith Factory Learning Center at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church.
Rachel Burkett, instructional technology resource teacher, earned a B.S. in elementary education from Glenville State College and a Master’s of education in integrating technology into the classroom from Walden University. Previously she was an instructional technology resource teacher and a fourth grade teacher in West Virginia.
Melissa Hopkins, Vocational/CTE department health sciences teacher, is in the Piedmont Virginia Community College registered nurse transition program.
Chris Roberson, guidance counselor, received his Bachelor’s and Master’s from U.Va. He also received a M.S. in school counseling from Longwood University. He has most recently been the director/lead counselor at Thompson Middle School in Stafford.
Lisa Searcy, guidance secretary/registrar, has most recently worked for Fluvanna schools in the transportation department.
Cameron Wilmer, special education instructional aide, earned his Master’s from Longwood University. He has been working at FCHS as a part-time aide in the special education department.
