Flag pole donated to Effort

On Sunday (Sept. 9) members from the local Woodmen lodge and Effort community gathered for a flag ceremony and dedication in remembrance of the anniversary of the attacks on 9/11. Tammy Shiner opened the ceremony by singing the National Anthem and Annette Brown, President of the local lodge, gave a brief history of the organization. Pointing to the children seated on the front row, she said, “This is why we do what we do. We do it for the children, so they will understand the sacrifices that have been made for their freedom and learn why the flag is an important symbol of that freedom.”

During the ceremony, members of the lodge raised the American and Christian flags under the backdrop of a clear blue sky. Those in attendance recited the Pledge of Allegiance to both flags. Natalie McRoberts played TAPS on her trumpet as the flags were lowered to half staff in remembrance of those who have suffered the most from acts of terrorism.

On behalf of Effort Christian School and Preschool, we would like to give special thanks to Connie Hanson, who made this donation possible. We would also like to thank John DeVore, Jimmy Christian, Ray Higdon, and Donald Tolliver for installing the pole. Lastly, we would like to thank Woodmen of the World and all who made the flag dedication ceremony possible.
