Here’s the truth: Kaine was governor of Virginia from 2006 to 2010. In the midst of America’s worst recession in 70 years, he led Virginia to national recognition as the “Best Managed State in America” (Governing magazine), and the “Best State for Business” (Forbes.com).
Due to his fiscal stewardship, Virginia maintained its Triple A bond rating (an honor shared by only seven states). Kaine cut the state budget by more than $5 billion, including a reduction in his own salary. He cut income taxes for tens of thousands of low income residents. He expanded early childhood and technical education, protected open space and Chesapeake Bay, and brokered the deal to eliminate Virginia’s estate tax. Kaine believes in working across the aisle to find common ground and solutions. He will serve us well in the U.S. Senate.
