The outdoor stage would be built in several phases. First, an open, flat stage with seating for 120 would be built. Future plans could include additional seating, a roof for the stage and an enclosed stage extension to shelter staging areas, sets and equipment.

The vote simply gives Grants Administrator Pat Groot the permission to apply for grant money from Bama Works, a charity founded by the Dave Matthews Band. Phase one of the project is budgeted at $59,925 which is more than the $51,000 proposed in the Capital Improvement Plan, Groot said. However, the county would only have to use $5,000 of its own money to leverage grant funds, Groot said.

County Administrator Steve Nichols said the outdoor music venue could bring money into the county.

“It’s a relatively low cost to taxpayers for possible increased revenue,” he said. – Ruthann Carr
