VDOT crews will work this evening and overnight if needed, pushing snow and applying salt, which aids melting, and sand and other abrasives to improve traction on the road surface, VDOT said.

Crews focus their efforts first on the interstates and primary highways, then shift resources to the secondary system (roads numbered 600 and above) as conditions allow.

Travel may be difficult tonight and early Saturday because low temperatures and moisture will likely lead to freezing surfaces, especially on untreated roadways, bridges and overpasses. Motorists are advised to reduce speed and allow extra time to reach their destination.
