As a teacher’s aide in Oakland School, Michelle worked with students needing remediation in phonics and reading fluency. She co-led classes in pottery, archery, and wilderness adventures. Her high school sport of tennis provided her with the necessary skills teach tennis classes to the students.
Beginning in 2007, Michelle volunteered in church programs at Fluvanna Baptist Church, in Scottsville, and First United Methodist Church, in Charlottesville. Being a group leader and director of preschoolers and primary age children at Fluvanna Baptist Church afforded Michelle many valuable teaching opportunities. She was actively involved in the People and Congregations Engaged in Ministry (PACEM), the 2007 Food Bank Drive and AWANA, at Fluvanna Baptist Church.
From 2010-2012 (500 hours), Michelle volunteered with the University of Virginia Junior Program, assisting in the Cancer Center, Family Medicine and Internal Medicine Departments and the Malcolm Cole Childcare Center.
This fall Michelle will attend Longwood University working towards her degree in Liberal Studies with a concentration in Special Education. She will earn her teaching certification in Special Education, grades K-12, and Elementary Education certification in grades K-6 and proceed on to graduate school to obtain her Masters Degree in Special Education.
Michelle is the daughter of Tim and Laura Painter of Palmyra.
