In his recent letter to the editor Julius Neelley states that the Fluvanna Board of Supervisors is proposing a real property tax rate that is “higher than any county in the region.” While this statement may be true, it lacks perspective. The proposed rate of 88 cents per $1,000 is lower than Charlottesville’s current rate of 95 cents per $1,000. Furthermore, in light of the fact that we do have a new high school, our proposed rate is near Albemarle’s proposed rate 81.5 per $1,000. Fluvanna is not Buckingham, Nelson or Louisa counties and some of us are happy about that. It is more like Albemarle and Charlottesville so it is not surprising that our tax burden is similar to theirs.
