The Haven

My name is Kathryn Madison and I am a 9th grader at Fluvanna High School. I am writing because I am currently raising awareness about a project I am organizing to help The Haven in Charlottesville.
The Haven is a non-profit homeless shelter located on West Market Street. I decided to support The Haven in order to give back to the community because I was surprised to find out that homelessness is an issue that affects people right here in our own backyards.
I am heading up the T-Shirt Project in order to collect donations to give to individuals who are in need at The Haven. The idea behind the project is to wrap donated personal care items, along with a positive note, into an extra-large t-shirt. Those t-shirt packages will then be given to The Haven where they will be distributed to people who come to the shelter. I am writing in order to get support from readers in the hopes that many of you will want to help me give back.
If you are interested in helping with this project and want to donate items, I am looking for: toothbrushes, toothpaste, extra-large t-shirts, soap, shampoo, conditioner, wash cloths, razors, shaving cream, lotion, and any other personal care items.
Drop-off locations are at E.W. Thomas’ grocery store and the Palmyra United Methodist Church.
