School board

Not much information is forthcoming from state officials, Fluvanna Superintendent Gena Keller and Finance Director Ed Breslauer told the Board.  But individual state representatives have been telling their constituents that funding will be lessened, they said.

Next year, in fiscal year 2016 (FY16), school staff wants to focus the budget on four areas: salary scales with a step increase for all staff, holding staff harmless for increases in health insurance, staffing needs with regard to class sizes and new teaching positions, and technology replacement and upgrades.

“[FY]16 could be a very interesting year” due to budget cuts, Breslauer warned.  Plus average daily membership (ADM), a formula used by the state to determine state funding levels, is dropping in Fluvanna.  “We know that ADM isn’t going through the roof so it’s either going to meet our goals or drop a little,” he said.

The FY15 budget is on track so far this year, Breslauer told the Board.
