In the opener, the girls fought back from an 11-3 first quarter deficit to trail by two at half and by the same margin after three periods.  Unfortunately the Black Knights would not fold, and they made their free throws at the end of the game for a 37-31 win. The Flucos were led by Kiana Childress with 10 points and Tamara Lewis who had eight.

The Fluco boys played outstanding basketball for three quarters against a Black Knights team that has lost only once all season. They led by 10 after three quarters, 44-34. Unfortunately for the Flucos, the fourth quarter started with the Black Knights forcing two quick turnovers for lay-ups and then canning a three pointer and the home crowd went crazy. The Flucos were outscored 20-4 in the fourth quarter and lost for the fourth time this season to Charlottesville 54-48. Vinnie Agee scored 11 of the Flucos’ 13 in the first quarter and led the Flucos with 26 for the game. He also was a monster on the boards. Julian Bonner again played excellent defense on Charlottesville’s top scorer and contributed eight on the offense end.

Despite these losses both teams will move on to the Region 4A North competition, which starts this Thursday, Feb. 26. Both teams will play at the top seed from Region 21.
