“I’m thrilled, excited, very grateful, and ready to get to work,” said Johnson.
Johnson, a retired Fluvanna County teacher and president of the Fluvanna Education Association, campaigned on her 25 years of experience in the school system and plans to direct a greater portion of school district funding to the classroom.
Johnson will take over for Bertha Armstrong, who will retire when her term expires at the end of the year. Armstrong endorsed Cary in the election.
The new School Board will need to deal with declining student enrollment and increased implementation of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curricula in the schools.
