Other 6 and unders who showed great improvement include Griffin Matula, Greg Ball, Tanith Thornton and Addaley Diemer who nearly halved her time in the 25-meter backstroke.
For the 8 and under swimmers, Aaron Fairbanks and Matthew Rea secured points for the Sharks with their respective second and third place finishes in the 25-meter butterfly. Time improvements in the 25-meter freestyle were made by Carter Covington, Zachary Luniewski, Brett Hicks, and Matthew Rea. In the 25-meter backstroke, Covington, Noah Cruz and Andrew Mikesh shaved time. Harrison Williams dropped time in the 25-meter breaststroke.
Julia Tomaras swam strong against the other 9- and 10-year-old competitors, bringing in a win in the 50-meter breaststroke. She also grabbed second in the 100-meter individual medley (IM). Alexander Ley added team points with his improved finish in the 50-meter freestyle.
Seeing time improvements in the 9-10 50-meter freestyle were Jack Oliphant, David McCloskey, Landon Creamer and Sarah Beth Robinson. In the 50-meter breaststroke Creamer, Robinson and Reece Matula improved on previous times. Madeline Dieter and Rebeccah Behrens improved in the 50-meter backstroke, while Jaxon Brooks and Brenna Rea bettered their earlier times in the 50-meter butterfly.
Jackson Kinsella led the Sharks 11-12 age group with three second place finishes, including the 100-meter IM, 50-meter butterfly, and as part of the 200-meter freestyle relay along with Austin Fairbanks, Tyler Harris and Joseph O’Connor. Meghan Dech bettered her time on the 100-meter IM. Tyler Harrison and Leah Currier improved their 50-meter freestyles. Andrew Franco pulled in a third in the 50-meter breaststroke with an improved time. Rory Dyke beat her 50-meter breaststroke time while Diana Givens and Anne Charlotte Robinson improved on their 50-meter backstrokes.
The 13-14 year old Sharks led the City in most events with Hunter Strickland taking a first in the 100-meter IM, 50-meter freestyle, a second in the 50-meter butterfly, and a first as part of the 200-meter freestyle relay along with Jason Dech, Logan Milburn and Nathaniel Smith. Smith took second in the 100-meter IM, and first in both the 50-meter backstroke and 50-meter butterfly. Jason Dech took third in the 100-meter IM and second in the 50-meter backstroke.
The Sharks dominated the 50-meter breaststroke, taking first through fourth places. Milburn snagged first, Noah Amato grabbed second, Owen Strickland came in third, and Gabe Nardone finished fourth. Gabe Nardone also saw a time improvement in his third place 50-meter backstroke finish. Gabe Nardone, Amato, Connor Bridge and Owen Strickland comprised the second place 200-meter freestyle relay team. Shae-Lynn Sebetzki grabbed a second in the 50-meter breaststroke. Improving were Seth Shaffer, Aiden Matula and Jordan Franco.
The win in the 200-meter freestyle relay for 15- to 18-year-olds went to the team of FeFe Nardone, Olivia Strickland, Zoe Moore and Caylyn McNaul. McNaul also grabbed first in the 50-meter breaststroke, followed by Morgan Maupin in second. Moore came in first in the 50-meter freestyle and grabbed fourth with an improved 50-meter breaststroke. FeFe Nardone dropped time to secure a second in the 50-meter backstroke. Morgan Milburn finished second in the 100-meter IM and dropped time for a third place finish in the 50-meter backstroke. Other 15- to 18-year-olds with time improvements were Rachel Hightman and Riley Welling.
The Sharks show they are determined to continue to strive for personal improvements as they navigate their way through this season of tougher competition against Division II teams. On Wednesday (July 13) the Sharks faced the Fluvanna Aquatics Swim Team.
