Now we are launching our ninth annual Bright Start for Kids program and our fifth annual Shoes for Success program. Both programs are designed to help less fortunate elementary schoolchildren in Fluvanna to have confidence and enjoy their school year. The Bright Start program provides qualified second grade children with school necessities stuffed into new backpacks. The shoes program allows 80 elementary age schoolchildren to come to Walmart and pick out a new pair of shoes. Our last event for this year will be Operation Warm (seventh edition) in October where we will provide winter coats for 90 schoolchildren.
The endowment was started in 2008 and has shown steady growth from day one. We now have 497 different donors and many of those have contributed multiple times. If you are moved to help us, we would appreciate your contributions in any amount. A donation of $50 will cover the cost of a stuffed backpack. A donation of $25 will send a child dancing off to school in new shoes. The cost for each winter coat is $25. Feel free to donate with funds specifically for one of these programs or a general donation will also be appreciated. All donations are 100 percent tax deductible. Contributions should be written to the Rotary Foundation of Fluvanna County with a note in the memo section of the check to direct the donation to the Rose Deborah Altschull Endowment for Youth. The mailing address is: Rotary Club of Fluvanna County, 265 Turkeysag Trail, Suite 102, Box 114, Palmyra, Va. 22963.
We thank you for your past help and for any funding in the future that you find in your heart to provide for our elementary age schoolchildren in need.

Thanks for supporting the arts
I wake up every morning incredibly happy that I live in Fluvanna County. We are surrounded by very caring people who take care of their own.
On Saturday, July 29, the Fluvanna Art Association (FAA) had a tag sale of art supplies at the Fluvanna County Library to benefit the high school and middle school art programs. The generosity and support of our neighbors was wonderful. As a result the FAA is able to give a major gift to support art education.
For more information about the FAA, check out FluvannaArt.com. And not the least, thank you for supporting the arts in Fluvanna County.
