Paul C. Hoshall

July 17, 1943 – October 6, 2021

Paul Hoshall of Lake Monticello, Virginia died peacefully in his sleep of natural causes early on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at his home.  Paul was 78 years old.  He is preceded in death by his parents Edna and Earle Hoshall, his sisters Ann Prock and Earle Daniher and his first wife, C. Jean Hoshall (Mary Kathryn Hart’s mother).  He is survived by his wife, Mary Ellen Sherburne, his sister, Sally Schoch in OR; his daughter, Mary Kathryn Hart (Jay); his step-daughters, Kristen Pappano and Patricia Golden; his granddaughter Kathryn Elizabeth Liu Yun Hart; four step-grandchildren, three nieces and four nephews in California and Oregon,  and his faithful dog, Jase.

Paul was born in Hackensack, NJ, attended high school at The International School (the American School) in the Philippines, the University of Colorado and Western State College, and lived in many places with his small family before settling down in 1974 in Northern Virginia.  He had a full career as a CPA Auditor, then as a consultant with a CPA firm. He proudly dedicated many hours to the Jaycee organization.  He enjoyed golfing, fly fishing, and camping out in the quiet of nature away from the bustle of Northern Virginia.  Of all the places he lived, he loved Colorado’s wide-open spaces the most.

After retirement, he moved to Lake Monticello where he enjoyed his new pace of life with his beloved wife Mary Ellen and his dog Jase including many days sitting out on his deck or floating out on the water in his boat.  He was an avid cook and griller, loved eating delicious food with good friends, and could always pair the best wine with even the most modest meal. People frequently commented on his special smile and his great laugh.  He always loved to travel and had just come back from a reunion of the American School (AS).  The AS in the Philippines held a special place in his heart.  He looked forward to the reunions with old friends and provided support to the school to help others experience being a student there.

To remember and celebrate his life we will be holding a memorial luncheon at the Lake Monticello clubhouse at 41 Ashlawn Avenue, Palmyra, Virginia 22963 on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.  A separate celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Friday October 29th at the Zenola Restaurant at 132 Branch Road SE Vienna, VA 22180.

The family asks that instead of flowers to please consider donations to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org, or to the Vicky SyCip Herrera Scholarship, International School Services, Inc. 15 Roszel Rd.
