Osborne C. Cosner

Osborne C. Cosner, 86, died peacefully at his home in Keswick on January 14, 2023.  Os was born in Fluvanna County, Virginia and was one of 11 children born to the late Theodore R. Cosner and Clara Payne Cosner. He was preceded in death by sisters, Audrey B. Day, Elender C. Hensley and Alma Cosner; and brothers, Joseph L., Maynard P., Beverly L., Waverly N., Clinton M., E. Grant, and Medford R. Cosner and daughter-in-law Debra Dellinger. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Martha Cosner; a son, Steve Dellinger and his wife, Cindy; daughters, Christa Cosner and her husband, Bryan Chambers; Kara Thomas and her husband, Edward; grandchildren Abigale Thomas; Bryan Dellinger and his fiancé, Shelly Hurd; Jeremy Dellinger and his wife, Stephani; Kara Chambers (Sam Coleman) and Kevin Chambers (Elizabeth Walker); great-granddaughters, Seraphim Eveanna Dellinger and Melody Walker; great-grandsons, Brayden and Heath Leadingham; as well as numerous relatives and friends.

Os was happiest when outside whether it was hunting, fishing, gardening picking blackberries, or just sitting on the porch enjoying the day. He learned a strong work ethic from his parents, which he passed on to his children, and was especially proud of having been part of a large family raised on a farm in Fluvanna.  He continued the farming tradition by growing a large vegetable garden and an excellent patch of watermelons and cantaloupes in his backyard for many years.  He loved to tell stories about growing up on the farm, his time in the Air Force when he was stationed in Japan and Korea, and turkey hunting.  He was also a huge Washington Redskins and UVA sports fan and loved watching the games with his family. After his retirement from Cosner Brothers, where he worked for over 42 years, he enjoyed time with his family, taking rides around the area to see the countryside, reading and visiting local restaurants. He remained energetic and curious about the world his entire life and encouraged those around him to do the same.

A memorial service for Os will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Bybee’s Road Baptist Church, 4989 Bybees Church Rd, Troy, VA 22974 with a reception at the church following the service.

Condolences may be sent to the family at www.hillandwood.com.
