Danny Reed announces bid for School Board in Fork Union District

Press Release

Danny Reed recently announced that he is running to represent the Fork Union District on the Fluvanna County School Board. Perrie Johnson—who announced in March that she will not seek reelection—currently serves as the Fork Union District representative.

Reed’s wife Lauren—a lifelong resident of Fork Union—is a special education teacher at Central Elementary. Lauren and Danny have two young boys, the oldest of which is currently a student in the Fluvanna County school system. Their youngest is set to begin school in the fall.

“There are two main reasons I am doing this,” said Reed in an announcement posted to Facebook late last week. “First, I’ve got a vested interest in the public school system here in Fluvanna County. My wife is a Fluvanna County school teacher, and both of my boys will be in the school system as of this fall. I firmly believe that Fluvanna’s School Board members should have that kind of skin in the game. I’ll have to go home to my entire family after every School Board meeting and look my wife and sons in the eye and say, ‘Here is the decision I made tonight, here’s why, and here’s how this is going to impact you.’”

Reed cited improved transparency and communication from the school system to the community as his second reason for running. “As a parent and spouse to a teacher, there are times when I feel I have to chase information from start to finish when we’re trying to figure out things as it relates to the schools. It shouldn’t happen like that. The School Board should serve as the main communicator from the school system to the community—and that should be done with transparency. As your School Board member, I will communicate…and I will communicate transparently.” Following these remarks, Reed encouraged his followers to leave comments and ask questions: “Conversation is how we move forward, and I am happy to have that conversation with the citizens of the Fork Union District.”

Reed was a student-athlete at Lynchburg University where he served as a captain of the basketball team and was named the school’s Academic Athlete of the Year in 2010. He earned his undergraduate degree in business management and his master’s in business administration and now serves as the marketing director at Red Arrow, a Fork Union-based business. In his free time, Reed enjoys volunteering his time to chaperone school field trips and coach his sons’ youth sports teams. The family of four are members of Fork Union Baptist Church.
