Florence May Strohmayer (nee Lanese) passed away peacefully on January 28, 2024, at the age of 92 in Burke, VA. On January 18th she had just celebrated her 65th wedding anniversary to her beloved husband Robert Eric Strohmayer. She is survived by her husband and three children, Dean Strohmayer of Rocky Point, NY; Tod Strohmayer of Sterling, VA; Beth Gamble, of Burke VA; and 6 grandchildren; Sarah, Sydney, Joshua, Benjamin, Eric and Jake. Bob and Flo are originally from Great Neck and Little Neck, NY and moved to East Northport, NY to raise their family. Flo worked as an administrative assistant for the telephone company and the Suffolk County, NY government. In 1995 they retired and moved to Palmyra, VA. They were very active members of Union United Methodist Church in East Northport, NY and then Palmyra United Methodist Church, in Palmyra, VA. A year ago, they moved up to Burke, VA to be closer to family as their care needs changed. Some of Flo’s hobbies over the years included painting, sewing, knitting, reading, and tap dancing. She was a huge animal lover, from dogs and cats to elephants and donkeys. She was also an avid solver of crossword puzzles and word searches. Flo had an amazing heart and was always willing to give of herself. She volunteered her time for many worthy causes. Her smile was beautiful and frequent. It was hard not to love her if you had the honor of meeting her. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. We will miss her greatly.
