PRESS RELEASE

After a great regional meet at the Charlottesville YMCA on Tuesday, Feb. 7, the FCHS swim team will be taking 12 swimmers to states – eight swimmers and four divers.  During the Regional dive meet on the boys side, Ivan Patchett received a third-place win with Ethan McPherson taking a fourth-place.   Ashlyn Wolkowicz took home a second-place win and Sarah Beth Robinson is a regional champion with a first-place finish.  After making the state team, Robinson said, “I am really grateful for all of the coaches who have been so patient with me and helping me to improve the past couple of years.  I’m excited to be able to represent FCHS in a positive way.”

Two swimmers will be moving on to States for individual races – Alex Fuller and Jackson Kinsella.  Fuller finished strong in her 100-yard butterfly winning first place and the title of regional champion while Kinsella earned his state placement with a fifth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle during the Regional meet.  Fuller stated, “I am thankful for the advice from all of the coaches this season and appreciate the confidence they have in my abilities.”

All three girls relays did an amazing job and will move on to states.  The 200-yard medley relay consisting of Sophie Pace, Reese Yowell, Abbie Ford and Alex Fuller won a fourth-place finish.   Fuller, Yowell, Pace and Brenna Rea competed in the 200-yard freestyle to bring home a fourth-place finish.   Fuller teamed with Vaile Altherr, Abbie Ford and Marley Rochester to compete in the 400-freestyle relay.  They had an amazing comeback dropping seven seconds from their entry time and brought home bronze in a nail biter finish.
