Governor signs legislation to reduce mandates on local governments

“We’ve repealed more unfunded mandates to education and local government than at any other time in Virginia’s history,” Kenney wrote in an email to the Fluvanna Review. “I’ll be sitting on tax reform and education sub-committees of the task force, and we should be reporting back to the governor before the General Assembly session next year.”
The five-member Task Force is a result of legislation introduced during the 2011 General Assembly session to review state mandates imposed on localities and to recommend temporary suspension or permanent repeal of such mandates as appropriate, the press release stated. In January 2012, the task force completed its work and made recommendations to the General Assembly about mandate changes that could be enacted. The bills signed were a result of that work. – Fluvanna Review staff
