Obama’s war for women’s rights

  • Appointed the most diverse Cabinet in United States history, with 7 women appointed to cabinet level positions
  • Created a White House Council on Women and Girls
  • Nominated Sonia Sotomayor and Elena Kagan to the United States Supreme Court, resulting in a historic total of three female Justices on the court
  • Signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA), ending sex discrimination in health insurance, especially pricing discrimination for women who, on the average, pay more than men for the same policy. The ACA also increases access to preventive care without co-pays or deductibles, and mandates maternity and prenatal coverage. It includes cancer screenings, all FDA approved contraceptives, well woman visits, prenatal care, breastfeeding supplies and counseling; and domestic violence screening and counseling.
  • Appointed more women to the federal bench that any other president in history. A total of 41% of his nominees have been women.
  • Supported and achieved the FBI’s change in the definition of rape, dropping the word “forcible”.
  • President Obama has earned a second term and deserves our vote. As women, President Obama also deserves our thanks.
