Choices

Fluvanna County is in decline. We must remember that a sound educational system is the bedrock of a community. Our schools have received budget cuts in the past two years, and the result has been the closing of two schools and the laying off of teachers. Home values have been falling, and teachers have been leaving our system because of the treatment they have received. Some have moved from Fluvanna County primarily out of apprehension of what is happening to our school system here.
In 1958 then Senator John F. Kennedy said, “Let us not seek the Republican answer or the Democratic answer, but the right answer. Let us not seek to fix the blame for the past. Let us accept our responsibility for the future.” Yes, it is our responsibility to revitalize Fluvanna County for the future, rather than to continue this current path of letting it remain stagnant and in decline.
We have a definite choice in November. For the Board of Supervisors we in the Rivanna District can elect Tony O’Brien, a reputable businessman who has a vision for the future and will carefully examine the issues and develop sound proposals to address them with transparency. In the Columbia District Mike Sheridan is a teacher who recognizes the importance of a sound system of education, and he comes from a family of lifelong Fluvanna residents who have given their service to this county for decades. As to the School Board election, we can return Bill Hughes from the Cunningham District who evidenced during his last service on the board his dedication to the education of our young people. The choice is ours. Let’s come together to keep Fluvanna strong and thriving.
