Vote Washington

As federal and state regulations continue to dictate how we provide education to our students, we must use the available data to identify and track student growth and achievement. Upon reviewing the data, I found it crucial that the Board be made aware of plans to adjust our strategic plan and communicate those needs among the educators that touch our students daily.
We have made gains in student literacy with staff support and a structured curriculum. Over the past four years, we have increased our CTE and AP course offerings. Our students have the ability to select courses in culinary arts, agriculture, engineering or healthcare. It is imperative that we continue to expand our STEM program and prepare our students to be productive and contributing adults to our society.
As your representative, I have partnered with stakeholders to formalize a relationship with local law enforcement for crisis management training, and design a plan to increase the safety and security for our students and staff. The development of our parent and community outreach council provides another avenue to advocate for our division initiatives. I will continue to collaborate with the Board of Supervisors to celebrate our successes and express our needs and concerns. I will continue to make myself available to our staff and our community to voice concerns and plan for the future. I was recently elected to serve for another year term as vice-chair for the central region for the Virginia School Boards Association. This position will give me the opportunity not only to represent our local divisions but to gain knowledge and share among my colleagues. Public education is not a “one size fits all”. When our students walk through the doors of our buildings, no two are alike; they do not learn in the same manner, and do not have the same instructional needs. We must adapt to each student’s needs and provide an individualized educational plan to ensure success. As a parent of two students in our school division, I understand the needs and will continue to advocate for our staff and students. I ask for your continued support as you vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
