River tires

In the past few weeks, 92 tires were removed from the Rivanna River between Crofton and Palmyra. This would not have been possible without the help of several people who deserve public thanks. Jason Smith of Fluvanna Parks and Recreation loaned two canoes for the first float which ferried out the tires and the Rivanna Conservation Society loaned six canoes for the second float. Andrea Johnson of Van der Linde Recycling arranged for the processing of all 92 tires which was greatly appreciated. Thanks to volunteers David Smith, John Wilkinson, Chris Kopp, Justin Altice and Dan Triman for getting wet and dirty. Finally, a big thanks to Christina Guseman for letting the Fluvanna area residents know about the stewardship work being done on their river.
