Chamber names Megahan and Craig businesspeople of year

Megahan and Craig started Fluvanna Ace Hardware almost 10 years ago as a Do-It-Best franchise. About three and a half years ago they decided to switch to Ace “to better serve the community with better prices and name brands,” according to the comments.

The two employ 13 local sales associates and plan to expand their store’s outdoor living and power equipment departments, according to the comments.

“Megahan and his wife Gail have been married 30 years and have one son, Carter, who is attending Virginia Commonwealth University,” according to the comments. “Craig and his wife Crystal have three children attending Fluvanna public schools.”

Megahan said he was surprised to receive the award. “I’m happy that people have that much confidence in us and that they enjoy shopping at our store,” he said. “It’s quite an honor for us. It reflects well on all the employees from top to bottom.”

“We were surprised and we really appreciate it,” said Craig. “We couldn’t have done it without our staff.”
The two businessmen “have both been known to say, ‘We’re not just running a business, we’re making friends with people who know they can rely on us,’” according to the comments.

The Chamber also gave Jacqui DeShano its President’s Award for excellence in service to the community and to the Chamber. The salon has supported over 20 local charities and organizations, according to comments prepared for the ceremony.

“I would like to recognize the fact that without a staff that is willing to volunteer their time and talents, a small business such as Salon DeShano is not capable of supporting the community in the way that we do,” DeShano said. “We are fortunate to have a group of dedicated professionals that are like-minded when it comes to giving back to the community that has been so supportive of us. If this effort results in being awarded one of the Chamber’s greatest honors, then I’m humbled.”
