John Campbell WhiteAugust 9, 1953 – May 30, 2017

John Campbell White passed suddenly on May 30, 2017. Mr. White was the son of Mary Elizabeth Wynegar and Edward White. Born in San Francisco, he grew up in New York City, attended the Browning School and later the Millbrook School for Boys in Millbrook, N.Y. Upon graduation he lived for two years in London, studying law and insurance at Lloyds of London. Upon returning to the States, he worked as an underwriter for Schiff-Tarehune, insuring tankers and cargo ships. He began his own marine insurance business under the name of J.C. White Inc. in New York and later moved his business to Miami, Fla. During the ‘80s and ‘90s, he took over his father’s company in Tortola in the British Virgin Islands and retired from insurance in 1995 when he returned to the States, living in Keene, N.H. He worked for Comfort Gear in Brattleboro, Vt. until 2001 when he moved to Lake Monticello, Va.

While living at Lake Monticello, he became involved with various committees, including the Buildings, Roads and Grounds Committee and the Finance Committee, always working to make Lake Monticello Owners’ Association fiscally responsible and accountable. He was a member of both Rivanna Radio Control Flying Club, where he had been secretary and treasurer for many years, and Fluvanna Radio Control Flying Club. He loved sailing, tennis, and most of all building planes from his own designs from scratch – no model kits for him. He was a licensed Cessna pilot since age 16. He owned and operated Helpful Services at Lake Monticello. He is survived by his half-sister Page H. Gifford.
