A Mechanicsville man was arrested Sunday (June 3) by the Fluvanna County’s Sheriff’s Office and charged in connection with a fire that severely damaged a house on Miles Jackson Road just east of Palmyra.

Cole Spencer Augustus CCole Carterarter, 26, was arrested by Fluvanna deputies and charged with one count of arson, three counts of attempted homicide, one count of violating a protective order and one count of giving false information to law enforcement, according to a press release from the sheriff’s office.

Firefighters responded to the house fire in the 1200 block of Miles Jackson Road in the early morning hours of June 3. Three people were in the dwelling and escaped unharmed. Fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze, although the dwelling sustained serious damage. An investigation revealed the fire was intentionally set and identified Carter as a suspect, according to the press release. Carter is known to one of persons who lived in the dwelling, according to the release.

Carter was located in Fluvanna County and taken into custody. He is being held without bond at the Central Virginia Regional Jail.
