Low turnout is typical for local elections. Voters tend to think, “What harm could they possibly do?” Well, now we know. What happened in Fluvanna County is a case history of how the Tea Party and their sympathizers take power. They work their way into obscure local elected offices with historically low election turnouts. They interpret a small margin of victory as a mandate and then charge ahead with changes that were never discussed during the campaign and justify this behavior by claiming, “Well, people voted for us.” Our community has learned a very valuable lesson the hard way. Fluvanna voters will not make the same mistake next time.
