Right kind of donors?

I was disheartened by the Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity’s recent decision to hold its fund-raiser golf tournament at a golf course not in Fluvanna County. Habitat apparently decided to move the venue from Lake Monticello, its home for the past 18 years, to Spring Creek essentially because it is a better facility and is able to offer lunch. Moreover, by holding the event at Spring Creek, I was told by the Habitat representative, that they expected to raise more money by being able to attract corporate sponsors from Charlottesville and other deep pocketed contributors … apparently the likes of which would not come to the Fluvanna County facility at Lake Monticello. Habitat for Humanity is a wonderful national organization that has served the under served for decades by returning to them a sense of pride and community. What a shame that the Fluvanna Habitat leaders determined that our community, Fluvanna County, was not suitable to attract the “right kind” of donors.
