Schools, economy linked

One critical need our schools have is to complete the staffing of our career and technical education classes to give our students rich opportunities to grow their job-related skills. We should be training our own future firefighters and EMTs. Students are on wait-lists for courses in health and medical sciences, criminal justice, engineering and technology. These could be Fluvanna’s future business owners. Another critical need is to upgrade the technology in our schools, necessary for our students to be successful and competitive learners in the 21st century and also to perform their best on the many computer-based tests required by the state, tests used to judge the success of our schools and what future business owners look at as they consider whether to come to Fluvanna.
These are investments in our future we can make immediately to help Fluvanna foster economic growth; they are relatively inexpensive and ultimately more cost-effective than not making them. As the unopposed candidate for the Rivanna District, I look forward to four more years working with the schools to make this happen. When you vote, please consider carefully what specific steps your candidate for supervisor will take to address the funding our schools need to produce well-educated and trained graduates who can be an important part of Fluvanna’s future.
