High 911 EMS charges

The amount insurance doesn’t cover includes deductibles, copays, and sometimes the majority of the amount for transports that are not considered medical emergencies. I am concerned that the balance billed to the patient places an undue financial burden, especially compared to our neighbor counties who do not bill patients for balances.
Thank you to Supervisor Ullenbruch, who voted no, because he felt it demeaning to patients, such as the working poor and retired people on fixed incomes, to have to file a waiver form indicating annual income, family size, etc., to have charges waived.
