Clerk experience is critical

I want to thank the writer of last week’s letter noting that one candidate listed the other candidates’ educational levels as though education trumps experience. I go further to find it an offensive tactic that denigrates the other candidates, particularly those already working in the clerk’s office. Imagine those more experienced clerks working for someone who holds herself as “better” than those she would supervise, while they train her to do the job they are already qualified for. I agree that experience in the clerk’s office is the most important asset for this particular job. I believe that the candidate who holds a law degree is positioning herself to be available if and when the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office has that position open. I believe in promoting from within, if there are candidates who are presently in the Clerk’s office and have proven to be an asset to that office. Two candidates have worked many years as Clerks in the office and would make a seamless transition. They each deserve more consideration for the position than anyone else on the ballot.
