This narrative is false and omits the central fact about polling and Obamacare, which is that ever since Obamacare became law, it has been a loser with the American people. In fact a majority of Americans have favored its repeal since March of 2010. As of the latest Rasmussen poll for this July, 55% favored repeal with only 39% opposed. This means that the “moderates” that Mr. Miller refers to, the independent voters, do not support Obamacare.
Why is this? Could it be the corrupt way in which the legislation was rammed through Congress despite its obvious unpopularity (remember the “Cornhusker Kickback” and the “Louisiana Purchase”)? Could it be the fact that the law was over 2,000 pages long and, as Nancy Pelosi famously said, “We have to pass the bill so you can find out what is in it”? Could it be that with Obamacare new entitlement spending will reach $1.7 trillion over the short term, and the CBO cost estimates keep rising? Could it be that Obamacare taxes will reach $1 trillion, and represent an obvious breach of candidate Obama’s promise not to raise taxes on the middle class? Could it be that even with all of this, it will not provide anywhere near universal coverage? Or could it be that people simply do not want the government telling them what to buy and they certainly do not want a “reform” that even more forcefully interposes the government between the individual consumer and their doctor? How about all of the above.
