The estimated collections presented to the Supervisors would only be achieved if Fluvanna residents were billed for whatever Medicare or private insurance didn’t cover. Neighboring Albemarle and Louisa counties have paid EMS personnel, but do not bill patients, but rather bill only Medicare and the insurance companies. The patient doesn’t receive a bill, having deemed that they have paid for the balance through their county taxes. Why would Fluvanna do otherwise, and send bills for upwards of $500, or more, to sick or injured 911 EMS patients?
I ask the Supervisors to not place this financial burden on Fluvanna residents, and follow Albemarle and Louisa’s example. Do not bill the patient for 911 EMS charges not paid by Medicare or private insurance.
