Helping Sandy victims

Last week I received notification that my company, RE/MAX Assured Properties, was teaming with another RE/MAX office in New Jersey to distribute much needed items to the victims of Hurricane Sandy in New Jersey. I sent out a mass e-mail to people on my client list and collected a few items to donate. On that list were my daughter’s...

Thanks for support

On Nov. 3, the Fluvanna Xtreme 11U baseball team held a fundraiser yard sale at EW Thomas. The community support was awesome and we just wanted to say thank you! We were so glad to be able to have our community come out and be able to use our items that we no longer needed! You support has made it just a bit easier on our parents helping...

Apathy

I am amazed at the level apathy from certain Board of Supervisor members at the pain that is being inflicted upon the Fluvanna County Public School staff. Staff have been hit with a 1.5% decrease in pay this past August to help make up for the deficit they were left with after the May 2012 budget slashing by the supervisors.

Book sale success

On behalf of the Fluvanna County Friends of the Library, I would like to thank the local residents for their generous support and patronage of our annual book sale. This was our fifth, and most successful, sale in the new library. I would also like to thank the local businesses who contributed to this year’s book sale sponsorship...

Three shows left

Thank you to everyone who attended this past weekend’s performances of the Persimmon Tree Players’ production of Harvey at the Carysbrook Performing Arts Center. We were honored by your support of community theatre in Fluvanna County. Thank you, also Page Gifford for the great preview feature article about our show and our leading...

Worse than Carter?

It’s amazing that someone who has been called “the worst president in history,” taking the title away from Jimmy Carter, was reelected. Enough said.

Cold feet

Who decides how many voting machines at each polling place? He/she should be replaced. My feet are still cold.

Lake clubhouse mobbed for election

There were on average 250 people waiting in line to vote all day on election day in freezing temperatures. I was there at 2 p.m. gave up and left, then came back again at 5 p.m., and voted at 7:05 p.m. with maybe 100 people still waiting in line to vote. A lot of people left the line and didn’t vote.

Stepping up

What a mess! It seems that citizens in Fluvanna County and surrounding counties are shaking their heads in disbelief about the Fluvanna mid-year school budget crisis. I even find myself, a seasoned veteran of the educational profession, wondering if I should succumb to a resounding voice in my head that tells me to forget about Fluvanna...
