The Lake’s 99 Percent?

The new “golf” building supports much more than golf. It would house board meetings, the broadcast facility, community meeting rooms, and a pub/sports bar that could attract new patrons. In fact, the new building only has one third of its space devoted to golf. This building requires $2 million, not $5 million. With this, golf will continue its current trend toward not only breaking even, but to making money by attracting new members.
Full disclosure – I golf. I don’t play tennis, don’t boat, and don’t have children using our recreational facilities…but I recognize the value of all our amenities, and want them all to be maintained and improved for full community use.
When we bought our home, the realtor didn’t show us either the clubhouse or golf shack. That was a wise decision – it would not have helped sell the house. New facilities would enhance all of our property values.
If the proposal fails, we will still need to spend nearly $2 million to achieve ADA compliance in these 40 year old buildings. But we must look to the future. Is this worth $95/year? $8/month? 26 cents/day? I believe so, and I will be voting yes.
