Thank you, Elizabeth Franklin

But that historical milestone is not why I support Elizabeth. I endorse her because she would be an invaluable asset for our county. Fluvanna, especially now, needs the kind of intelligence, reason, fact-finding, knowledge and devotion to the people’s interests that Elizabeth would bring to the supervisors’ table.
When I was supervisor and vice-chair of the Board, Elizabeth often sought me out on issues confronting the county. I was immensely impressed with her research, analysis, drive and concern for everyday citizens. After I left the Board, Elizabeth and I worked together on the Fluvanna Taxpayers Association board, on committees and on projects. One project was to develop a first-ever fiscal chapter for the county’s Comprehensive Plan – a historic effort by a citizens group and Elizabeth’s idea. For the first time, it made cost and fiscal impact a factor in county planning. As a result, supervisors adopted the “Financial Sustainability” chapter that is now part of the plan. That was a vital achievement, and it wouldn’t have happened without Elizabeth.
I have seen Elizabeth at countless meetings over the years, addressing supervisors and the Planning Commission on key issues. She has written position papers and recommendations on topics ranging from water to the reassessment. No citizen has put in more time to become informed and to inform others. No one has been a stronger and more passionate voice for taxpayers and for keeping Fluvanna affordable. Few are as knowledgeable about county issues. She speaks from the heart and truly cares about government working better and putting the interests of the people first.
Elizabeth’s study and analysis of the critical issues facing Fluvanna is exactly what we need on the Board of Supervisors to make smarter decisions and save us from costly future mistakes.
