The School Board recently voted on a quiet, but significant change to its agenda. In past years the agenda has provided three minutes of public comment at the beginning of each meeting, and an additional three minutes after new business, old...
So, I was recently reviewing the online Fluvanna County assessments of my house, to see if the recent re-assessments would drop my value and taxes, when I discovered a minor error. It seems someone had recalculated the square footage of my house from 2,445 to 3,759.
The emphasis by the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is to analyze growth in Fluvanna County. We do not need a new subdivision adjacent to Lake Monticello or a Walkers Ridge subdivision in Palmyra area with an additional 1,200 plus homes (12% more than existing homes). We need business growth not more homes.
The weather was perfect, and smiles abounded. We had another wonderful Old Farm Day. I must mention one of our volunteers in particular, Lisa Caltabiano. When I voted for the conservatives in 2010, it was because they promised to help fix the economy. So, what did they do when the House became controlled by the right wing, they introduced 67 bills that dealt with issues ranging...
I know this will be a hot topic during tax rate discussions. But I’m curious, when the assessment values skyrocketed in 2006/2007, did Fluvanna County equalize the tax rate by dropping it drastically? Seems they are giving us a heads up that they will jack up the tax rates in order to keep the same income, while others see a decrease...
Lake Monticello Owners Association meetings have taken on a different flair under Valerie Palamountain’s leadership. Palamountain now has each department head reporting to the Board at the monthly meeting and that includes crime statistics from Lake Police Chief Thomas Boisvert.“I introduced it – asking police, maintenance, and...
